History of the Halewood News
Halewood Community Newsletter was started in 1998 as a A4 news page about the activities of St Mary's Day Care Centre and St Mary's Methodist Church.
It was started by the Late Harry Allen (who later became better known in the newsletter as "Harry the Owl" because of his knowledge and articles about Halewood and in particular his working on various farms in Halewood from the age of 9yrs) and myself Tony Lucock. Harry and I first met when I was involved in the running of the Knowsley Youth Soccer Tournament and I was looking for somewhere to house a group of 10 yr old boys from Romania and St Mary's had agreed to let us use the Centre, Harry and a number of church people volunteered to help, this continued for another 5 years. And a lasting friendship developed between Harry and myself up until his death in 2005
Since then that A4 news article has developed into the 16 page community newsletter it is today. Thanks for this continued success goes to the volunteers who help to produce it and the support over the years of Eli Lilly (Speke operations) in particular Julie Stanley and Halewood Town Council who have always given us plenty of help and support.

I would like to relay my thanks for the work done by my good friend Ronnie Sinclair who sadly passed away on November 5th 2011.
Ron, along with his partner Joan achieved some great changes for Halewood, he was unafraid to speak his mind about problems in Halewood.
It has been decided by the Leathers Lane/Wood Road Residents Association of which he was chair, and Halewood Town Council, to commemorate is work by
providing a memorial bench and plaque at the New Hutte Park (at the end of Higher Road by the roundabout.
Ronnie was deeply involved in gaining the £50.000 gr ant to pay for the work carried out at the site.
